WIC and Workforce Partner for New Satellite Location

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department and the City of Springfield are pleased to announce a new partnership to offer one-stop services for citizens.
Women, Infants & Children services, administered by the Health Department, will now be available by appointment at the Missouri Career Center at 2900 E. Sunshine St.
Beginning July 15, WIC clients can be certified, get breastfeeding support and access nutritional education at the new satellite location. Meetings are by appointment, and can be made by calling (417) 851-1581.
Initially, appointments will be scheduled between 8:45 a.m. and 5 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday, for the third week of each month.
“We see this as a wonderful opportunity to connect participants to services while growing our clinic,” said Mary Ellison, WIC Program Coordinator with the Springfield-Greene County Health Department.
WIC’s mission is to safeguard the health of women, infants and children who are at nutritional risk by providing nutritious foods to enhance diets, information on healthy eating and referrals to health care and other community resources.
“We are very excited about the partnership with WIC, which will enhance our service menu to working families,” said Mary Ann Rojas, the Director of Workforce Development for the City of Springfield.
The Missouri Career Center offers services to job-seekers and businesses to create a well-prepared workforce that meets the needs of a responsible business community.
This partnership came about with the recognition that many of the same clients were visiting WIC locations and the Career Center. It also coincided with WIC outgrowing a previous satellite location at Schweitzer United Methodist Church.
This move will allow space for WIC services to grow, while also meeting local families’ needs in one location.
WIC services are provided to eligible women who are pregnant, breastfeeding and/or post-partum mothers, as well as infants and children up to the age of five. Eligibility is dependent upon income and household size.
