Nov 30, 2016 - WIC Contract Renewed for 2017

WIC Nutrition

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department received word that the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services has renewed the contract for the Special Supplemental Food and Nutrition Education Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) for another year. The WIC program provides supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income pregnant, breastfeeding, and non-breastfeeding postpartum women, and to infants and children up to age five who are found to be at nutritional risk. Low income is defined as 185% or below the Federal Poverty guidelines—which is currently $44,863 a year for a family of four. SGCHD will receive $1,385,930 for the 2017 fiscal year with a contract caseload of 92,560. In 2016, we issued 92,441 checks. We look forward to working with our staff and partners to serve our community in the coming year.
