City Air Permits

The Outdoor Air Quality Program works to protect the air we breathe and help ensure that it remains safe for the future. The following permits are required by the City of Springfield Outdoor Air Quality Program:

Open Burning Permit

  • Open Burning Permit ($111) - A property owner or contractor must obtain a permit to be able to burn brush or trees that originate on the property. The property has to meet several permit restrictions in order to obtain a permit.
  • To apply for a burn permit go to https://ecity.springfieldmo.gov/  and click on "Create a Profile". After that you'll select "Apply" at the top of your screen and then "Other Permits" and then "Air Quality Open Burning" and take a few minutes to fill out and submit the application. City staff will review the application and if approved you will be able to pay your fee within E-City and then the permit should issue. After you pay your fee let City staff know by emailing them at [email protected] and then they will forward your approved permit to the fire department.

Asbestos Inspection

  • Asbestos Fee ($153) - A property owner or contractor shall pay an asbestos fee to the Outdoor Air Quality Control Program.  When an application for a demolition permit is received by the Department of Building Development Services (BDS), the Outdoor Air Quality Control Program requires an asbestos inspection and report by a registered State of Missouri licensed Asbestos Building Inspector. The Outdoor Air Quality Control Program will review the applicant’s asbestos inspection report plus verify removal and disposal of any Asbestos-containing materials.
  • To better understand the asbestos inspection process, please see chart and terms.
Effective October 1, 2018, Air Construction and Facility Operating Permits will be issued and monitored by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources Air Pollution Control Program, including facility inspections and enforcement.
