Smoke Alarms Save Lives

Increase your chance of surviving a fire

  • Smoke alarms double your chances of surviving a fire
  • More than half of all Springfield homes have no working smoke alarm.
  • 80% of all fire deaths happen in homes with no working smoke alarm.
  • Smoke alarms can provide early warning of fires, allowing time for families to escape and firefighters to arrive before the fire grows.

Free Smoke Alarm Program

The Springfield Fire Department is proud to offer a free smoke alarm program for citizens who need help paying for a smoke alarm and/or battery.  Smoke alarms for the deaf and hard of hearing are also available.

To receive an alarm or battery, call 417-874-2300 or fill out this online application and you will be contacted by a fire crew to set up a time to install your alarm and/or batteries.
