Unfortunately, the Springfield Jazz Festival will not take place as normal, due to COVID. However, Park Central Square will be alive with the sound of music very soon! The Sounds on the Square live music series returns Aug. 20-Oct. 3 with performances Thursday afternoons as well as Friday and Saturday evenings.

"The Downtown Springfield Association is thankful to have Missouri Arts Council and the City of Springfield partner with us to alter the one-day Springfield Jazz Festival to a seven-week grassroots concert series," Rusty Worley, DSA Executive Director, said. "Through the past two decades of revitalization, we have witnessed how important the arts are in providing programming for Park Central Square. The space provides ample room for social distancing in an historical setting designed to be a place where our community comes together. The series will support local musicians and make an evening of dining and shopping Downtown even more enjoyable."

Performances from the gazebo will start at 12:15 p.m. Thursdays, and 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Mabel Johnson, of the Ukeladies, kicks off the series Aug. 20, with the Layton Hollow Gals (Melinda Mullins & Betsey Mae Graves) set to light up the stage Aug. 21 and The Bridgetones Aug. 22. Please visit the Downtown Springfield Association website for the full schedule and more info.

Sounds on the Square is sponsored by Missouri Arts Council and the City of Springfield. Guests are asked to maintain six feet of physical distance from other guests when possible. The City's current ordinance requires masks to be worn outside when people are unable to maintain 6 feet of distance.
