Cara Burch, Administrative Specialist, Public Works and Environmental Services

CaraBurch

Cara began working for the City of Springfield in 2016.

Why do you do what you do?

Being an admin assistant allows me to put my detail-oriented,slightly obsessive personality to good use without drawing too much attention to my behavior.

What’s the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is working with lots of different people and topics; I’m never bored. Also, the staff in the City Managers’ offices is pretty special. When you truly enjoy being with your co-workers, it makes for pleasant days ... as long as there’s a cold can of Dr Pepper available for Sharon.

What’s the hardest part of your job?

I would say the hardest part of my job is constantly reprioritizing tasks throughout each day. Juggling my usual responsibilities with those surprises of the day often makes it difficult to stay caught up.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within the City, whose job would you want?

I want to be The Giraffe Lady at the DickersonPark Zoo. Is that a job? I want that job.

What do you admire about this organization?

I really admire CAmP. I’ve watched Sharon Smith take Greg Burris’ brainchild and buildit into an incredibly special program. I have the privilege of being a CAmPer this year and the amount of work fed into this program each month by Sharon, Greg and all of the departments is amazing. You see the passion and pride that everyone involved has for the City and their department and it’s energizing and inspiring
