Greene County Family Justice Center

When looking for resources, the Greene County Family Justice Center is a great start. The F.J.C. houses several agencies throughout the community under one roof (Harmony House, The Victim Center, Legal Services of Southern Missouri, Greene County Children’s Division,  Greene County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Greene County Sheriff’s Office and Child Support Division)  and acts as a sort of middle man between victims and community resources. The F.J.C. is located at 1418 E Pythian St in Springfield, MO, and all services are free and confidential. You can go there to get in contact with resources or you can contact community resources individually.  More resources are listed below.

The Victim Center

Victim Center provides free-of-charge services to all victims of violent or sexual crimes. Provides prevention education, 24-hour Crisis Response Line, counseling and victim advocacy.

Harmony House

The mission of Harmony House is to provide shelter, advocacy and education to survivors of domestic violence and promote the principle that all individuals have the right to a life free of abuse. Some services provided include support groups, life skills, parenting and relationship classes and legal advocacy. All services are free and confidential.  

Me Too Springfield

Me Too Springfield offers support, community, and awareness to survivors and allies in the Springfield area. They lead educational classes for adults and children alike and organize events focused on healing and empowerment.

National Organization for Women (Missouri NOW)

NOW works to eliminate discrimination and harassment in the workplace, schools, the justice system, and all other sectors of society; secure abortion, birth control and reproductive rights for all women; end all forms of violence against women; eradicate racism, sexism and homophobia; and promote equality and justice in our society. Some resources they provide include support services, legal services and social services. 

RAINN

RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual violence organization. They can provide victims with confidential support from trained staff members, including guidance counseling, legal information and local referrals. 

Crime Victims’ Compensation Program

Through the Missouri Department of Public Safety, you may be eligible to receive compensation for loss of income, support, funeral expenses, and reasonable medical, drug and counseling expenses up to $20,000. You can find assistance for filing through The Victim Center, the Family Justice Center and Greene County Juvenile Justice Center (417-868-4008). 

Legal Services of Southern Missouri

Legal Services of Southern Missouri is a not-for-profit corporation created by an Act of Congress to ensure low-income people have equal access to the courts nationwide. LSSM never charges a fee to a client. LSSM’s core legal services provided to the low-income and elderly are domestic/sexual violence, family, consumer, housing, public benefits and elder law.

Isabel’s House provides immediate refuge for children ages birth to 12 whose families are in crisis. 

Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline

Any person may report suspected child abuse, neglect, or exploitation. Anonymous reports are accepted from individuals who are not mandated by occupation to report. 

Child Advocacy Center

The Child Advocacy Center provides Forensic Interviews and Medical Exams to children when there are allegations of abuse or neglect. These services are provided in a safe and child-friendly setting by appointment only. The evidence and information gathered is then shared with a “team” of law enforcement officials, Children’s Division investigators, juvenile officers and more.

State of Missouri Office of Child Advocate

The OCA provides an avenue through which citizens are able to obtain an independent and impartial review of disputed decisions, actions, and inactions regarding any child at risk of abuse, neglect, or other harm.

CASA of Southwest Missouri (Court Appointed Special Advocates)

CASA of Southwest Missouri is a private, nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supports community volunteers who assist the court in protecting the best interests of abused and neglected children in Southwest Missouri. These services are only available to those who have been appointed an advocate by a juvenile court judge.
