Every year the Springfield Police Department investigates many vehicle accidents that involve cars and pedestrians getting together in the roadway. Sometimes tragically these accidents involve children.
Streets and roads were designed for vehicles to travel on, not as walkways and playgrounds. We are seeing an increase in the number of families who have chosen to place their portable basketball goals so that the kids playing ball use the street as their basketball court. Besides being illegal this is a dangerous activity that could have horrible results.
Please keep the children from playing in the street and maybe we can keep someone from getting hurt.
