Unnecessary Tragedies

Two Missouri State Highway Patrol Troopers have been killed in the past several weeks as they were working near the roadway and were struck by vehicles (originally from October 2005). These unnecessary accidents show how dangerous it is to work near the roadways not only for officers but for highway and construction workers also. I would like to remind drivers to please pay attention to the road and their surroundings while driving, and to slow down and use caution when there are people and vehicles near the sides of the road. Not paying attention can be a matter of life and death.

Missouri Law #304.022 states a driver approaching a stationary emergency vehicle with its lights activated shall proceed with caution and if possible move into the other lane if the move can be made in safety. I would ask that you provide the same courtesy to highway and construction workers to keep them safe as they work alongside the roads.

Highway safety is every driver’s responsibility.
