Project Overview

City Council adopted the new Commercial Street Design Guidelines on April 20, 2020.

The City of Springfield Landmarks Board has completed the update to the Design Guidelines for the Commercial Street National Historic District. These guidelines, along with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards, provide the basis for decisions by theLandmarks Board regarding exterior alterations to historic properties located within the Commercial Street Historic District. The guidelines are used by applicants and their architects and contractors to submit project proposals for evaluation and approval. The guidelines serve to both preserve the historic significance and character of the District and to facilitate economic revitalization.
