Sharon Smith

Sharon has worked for the City since 2003.

What’s something you’ve learned since working for the City?

City employees are very loyal and passionate about what they do to help make our community a great place to live. If you don’t love helping people, a career at City of Springfield may not be for you. All of us play a role in helping to make this city a better place for our citizens.

What’s the hardest part of your job?

Keeping up with the City Manager’s calendar. It’s very challenging at times to prioritize and juggle and schedule meetings that include staff as well as outside community leaders. Trying to keep my eye on that while keeping track of other things can be challenging. You have to “think outside the box.”

What’s the best part of your job?

CAmP Springfield! Getting to know the individuals in the class each year is the best thing! I truly feel like I am one of the luckiest employees because I get to work with such a wide variety of employees. So many different personalities – I love it! And seeing the pride that is displayed by the departments we visit – so many truly love their jobs and love the opportunity to show the CAmP class what they do. It’s very rewarding!

If you could switch your job with anyone else within the City, whose job would you want?

My daughter Kayla! But just for one day. She is a 9-1-1 telecommunicator. I truly admire the entire staff over there so much. They are constantly dealing with citizens at their worst moment. I know I couldn’t do that every day. I’m so proud of her for what she does – she knows Mom couldn’t handle it!
