Lori Stevens, Human Resources Specialist

Lori has worked for the City since 2017.

What are three words to describe the City of Springfield?

Passionate, inspiring, community.

What’s something you’ve learned since working for the City?

There is so much more to the City than people realize! I didn’t know just how much the City’s reach affects our community and citizens from public safety to sewer maintenance to airport operations to the zoo. There are hundreds of people working every day to make Springfield one of the best places to live and work!

Why do you do what you do?

I truly believe in our ‘Build Your Community, Build YourCareer’ campaign. This job for me has a lot of personal fulfillment in knowing that I am making a direct impact to improve the local Springfield community by working to place individuals in positions with the City.

What’s the hardest part of your job?

We interview a lot of people and as much as we would like to hire everyone, usually we can only hire one person for a job. Having those conversations with the candidates that weren’t selected is pretty difficult, but we always try to point them in the direction of additional resources for the future.

What’s the best part of your job?

When I am able to hire someone who is passionate about what they do and see how they are making a positive impact in the community through their work at the City.

If you could switch your job with anyone else within the City, whose job would you want?

That’s a tough one because I absolutely love my job.
