Fire Prevention Month

Each year, October is designated as Fire Prevention Month.  SFD educators visit over 60 public and private schools, PreK programs and child-care centers to provide age appropriate fire and life safety education and skills to keep our children safe from fire.

The Fire Prevention Month education program is part of the Springfield Fire Department’s comprehensive Community Risk Reduction program, which is  focused on the reduction and elimination of risk from fire in the community.

“Community Risk Reduction is about prioritizing our risks as a community and working together to invest the time and resources necessary to reduce them,” said Fire Chief David Pennington.

The Fire Department offers free smoke alarms and batteries to anyone in need. If you need a smoke alarm or replacement battery or would like to have your alarm(s) tested, please contact the Fire Department at 417-874-2300 to schedule an appointment, or by email at [email protected].
