LeCompte Road Improvements

LaCompte

The need for improvements to LeCompte Road first arose to address additional demand for industrial warehousing at Springfield Underground. The current roadway is a two-lane, secondary arterial with an average road width of 23 feet with limited shoulders. It serves as a primary route for industrial traffic east of U.S. Highway 65. This design is  not adequate to handle the increased traffic demands of Springfield Underground. When upgraded, this roadway will be wider, have three lanes and sufficient shoulders to address far more industrial business traffic.

The project will upgrade LeCompte Road, from East Division Street (Route YY) north to BNSF Railroad, and the LeCompte Road and Division Street (Route YY) intersection. The project consists of constructing approximately 2,100 linear feet of new full-depth asphalt pavement along LeCompte Road. The section of new pavement will taper from the existing two-lane section into the proposed three-lane typical section, which includes curb & gutter, sidewalks on both sides (to logical termini), and an enclosed storm water system. The southern portion of LeCompte Road consists of approximately 1,900 linear feet of full depth asphalt widening with an asphalt overlay. As part of the road widening, utility relocation will be included with the project. Additionally, improvements will be made at the LeCompte Road and Division Street (Route YY) intersection, as well as Division Street. The intersection improvements will also necessitate relocation of existing utilities, included as part of the project. Intersection improvements will allow for an eastbound left-turn lane, modified westbound left-turn lane, and improvement turning radii. More specifically, the widening along Division Street (Route YY) will include approximately 2,150 linear feet of full depth widening including tapers.

The project would increase semi-truck delivery capacity to Springfield Underground and adjacent property, resulting in the development of adjacent property for primary industrial business and job growth.
