On 06/10/1993, the Springfield Police Department investigated the homicide of Frank Stanton. At approximately 4:30 a.m., an off-duty police officer discovered Stanton’s 1985 maroon Toyota pickup truck on the side of the road in the 1300 block of E. Republic Road. Stanton was located deceased inside the vehicle, and the cause of death was determined to be from a gunshot. Stanton was reported to be driving to his place of employment, the Springfield News-Leader, where he worked as a carrier. It is believed the shooting took place sometime between 3:40 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., based on witness statements of other delivery persons that consistently traveled through this area.
