Past Assessments

Since 1999 the City of Springfield has conducted approximately 100 environmental assessments in conjunction with preparing properties within the community’s vision of redevelopment and quality of life. These assessments have been provided through federal, state, local and private resources. Federal resources as EPA Brownfield Grants Included:

  • 1999: EPA competitively awarded the City of Springfield a $200,000 Brownfield Assessment Demonstration Pilot grant. The Pilot assessed properties within the 250-acre downtown Jordan Creek Corridor.
  • 2003: EPA awarded the City a $150,000 Brownfield Assessment Grant for hazardous substances. The grant assessed additional brownfields properties additional within the 250-acre Jordan Valley Park.
  • 2004: EPA awarded the City a Brownfield Assessment Grant ($150,000 for hazardous substances and $150,000 for petroleum) to conduct Phase I and II assessments, remediation planning and community outreach.
