FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
On Jan. 17 and Feb. 7, the Springfield Fire Department responded to building fires in an apartment building and a nursing home. Both fires had been extinguished by the activation of a sprinkler head from the fire protection system at each location. The incident on Jan. 17 was found to be caused by combustibles stored on the stove. The Feb. 7 incident was found to be caused by an electrical malfunction.
In the continued effort to help keep our community safe, the Springfield Fire Department has adopted and enforces the 2018 International Fire Code. In both cases, the fire protection systems were installed in accordance with the Fire Code and had been inspected in the last 12 months.
The Springfield Fire Department has adopted The Compliance Engine by Brycer, a third-party company, to track and provide notifications of needed inspections, along with deficiencies of fire protection systems including sprinkler systems, fire alarms, private hydrants and fire pumps. The inspections provide verification the protection systems are in working order. The fire protection systems both operated as designed, resulting in limited fire damage.
