More Than 3,000 High School Students to Attend Build My Future
More than 3,000 area high school students are expected to attend the annual Build My Future construction industry showcase, on Wednesday, April 5, at the Ozark Empire Fairgrounds E*Plex in Springfield.
The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and features 75 exhibitors representing a wide variety of construction industry-related careers from the skilled trades to architecture and engineering companies as well as public entities. A total of 86 schools and programs will be in attendance from a 25-county area.
Some activities include bricklaying, welding, equipment operating, and learning to use a variety of tools. Events such as Build My Future educate students on the wide variety of careers offered in the construction industry and help fill critical worker shortages.
About Build My Future: Build My Future is a 501(c)3 organization that is a collaborative effort between the City of Springfield Department of Workforce Development, Springfield Contractors Association, the Home Builders Association, the Builders Association, Associated General Contractors of Missouri, Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Missouri Department of Transportation, and several private companies, educational institutions and local labor unions including the Heavy Laborers Local 663 and the Carpenters Local 987.
