Springfield, Mo. – The Springfield Police Department investigates numerous accidents each year involving motorcycles. In 2022, Springfield Police investigated five fatal crashes involving motorcycles. To help prevent crashes involving motorcycles, the Springfield Police Department conducts enforcement and education activities throughout the year.
On May 20, 2023, the Springfield Police Department conducted Operation Safe Ride in cooperation with the Greene County Sheriff's Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Operation Safe Ride provides a highly visible enforcement presence in the city that focuses on motor vehicle law violations and motorcycle safety.
During Operation Safe Ride, there were 214 total vehicle stops that resulted in 16 arrests including five for driving while intoxicated.
The Springfield Police Department also issued 13 citations and 32 warnings during the operation.
Additional Operation Safe Rides will be planned during 2023.
Operation Safe Ride is paid for by a Hazardous Moving Violations (HMV) grant.
