Springfield, Mo. – The Springfield Police Department welcomed 21 recruits to the 77th Springfield Police Academy.
This academy class is the most diverse in terms of gender, race and ethnicity in the history of the department with recruits from across the country including New York, Utah, North Carolina, Colorado and throughout the Midwest. Recruits have a variety of work and education experience including the military, corrections, medical and previous law enforcement.
While in the academy, recruits will spend the next six months completing 1,100 hours of intense law enforcement training.
Upon graduation, recruits work with an experienced field-training officer (FTO) for approximately 520 hours (13 weeks) of on-the-job training. Following the completion of the FTO program, new officers are assigned to the Uniform Operations Bureau.
