Construction of Battlefield Corridor Improvements between Luster and Lone Pine to begin Aug. 1

Construction on the Battlefield Corridor Improvement Project – a collection of roadway and intersection improvements along East Battlefield Road between Luster and Lone Pine avenues – is set to begin Aug. 1. General contractor Hartman and Company expects project completion by winter.

The Battlefield Corridor Improvement Project will combine a number of necessary roadway improvements and repairs into one project in an effort to reduce costs, coordinate traffic control and minimize impacts to traffic and area businesses.

The improvements along the corridor will include:

Intersection improvements at Battlefield Road and Lone Pine Avenue – including additional turn lanes, capacity improvements and infrastructure improvements in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

New trail connection from Galloway Creek Greenway Trail – including a 10-foot-wide multi-use path from the Galloway Creek Greenway to a new 5-foot sidewalk that will run north along Lone Pine Avenue to the intersection at Battlefield. The path will connect with the greenway between the City’s Lone Pine Recycling Center and the Half-a-Hill Shopping Center.

Intersection improvements at Battlefield and Luster – including signal upgrades and pedestrian improvements in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Concrete pavement panel replacement – including the removal and replacement of individual sections of concrete pavement that is in poor condition along Battlefield Road between Lone Pine and Luster avenues.

Motorists should expect minor impacts to traffic flow at the Battlefield and Lone Pine intersection in the first two weeks of construction as crews work to remove the existing signal poles, place temporary signals and begin to mobilize equipment and supplies.

“The public can expect a variety of single lane closures along Battlefield throughout the project, but we expect traffic to remain flowing,” explains City Project Manager Nicholas Edelman. “The Lone Pine intersection may be impacted with lane closures so drivers should be aware that it might take a few more minutes to get through during certain periods of construction.”

The public will be notified of specific impacts as the project progresses and details become available.

The Battlefield Corridor Improvement project is expected to cost $1.4 million and will be funded through a combination of sources including the ¼-cent Capital Improvement and 1/8-cent Transportation sales taxes. The project is anticipated for completion by winter.
