Police officers, fire fighters to face off on basketball court

Springfield, Mo. – The Springfield Police Department and the Springfield Fire Department will go head-to-head for kids facing adversity in the 2022 Guns N Hoses basketball game benefitting Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Ozarks.

The police vs. fire rivalry heats up at 6:30 p.m., on Saturday, August 5, at Glendale High School. Doors open at 6 p.m.

Presented annually by the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, the competition doesn’t start on the court. Both departments also compete to sell the most event tickets, supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters’ mission of building a strong community by connecting local youth with dedicated volunteers who are positive mentors. Together we can make a profound difference in their lives and help shape a brighter future for the Ozarks.

Guns N Hoses tickets are $5 each (children 12 and under are free) and can be purchased from the Springfield Police Department or the Springfield Fire Department. Tickets are also available at the door. Bigs and Littles get in free!

BBBSO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and United Way partner agency that believes that every child can succeed and even thrive in life. Most children served by Big Brothers Big Sisters are in single-parent and low-income families or households where a parent is incarcerated. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters supports life changing friendships between professionally screened adult volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles).

Big Brothers Big Sisters provides a system of ongoing evaluation and support, which independent studies prove helps Littles perform better in school, avoid risky behaviors, and grow up to be productive, engaged citizens.
