Winter respiratory virus season is here, and Springfield-Greene County Health is encouraging our community to get up to date on COVID-19 and influenza vaccines.

The Health Department offers COVID-19 and flu vaccinations for those who are uninsured or underinsured. For people who qualify under these guidelines, COVID-19 vaccines will be available for people ages 5 and older, and flu vaccines will be available for people ages 6 months and older.

Health Department and other community-wide vaccination opportunities can be found with the Vaccine Locator tool on Vaccine417.com. The Vaccine Locator has been updated to provide up-to-date information regarding current seasonal vaccine offerings.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices recommends all people ages 6 months and older receive updated COVID-19 and flu vaccines this respiratory season. Getting vaccinated can reduce the severity of respiratory virus symptoms and decrease likelihood of hospitalization and death.

Respiratory virus season usually peaks between December and February. It is recommended to receive flu and COVID-19 vaccines before this time. However, vaccination at any point of peak season provides protection.

Call 417-864-1658 to schedule an appointment for a COVID-19 or flu vaccine at the Health Department.
