FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

At approximately 9:23 p.m. on Oct. 26, Springfield police officers responded to 2148 N. East, Apt. #B, after the 911 caller discovered a male subject who was not breathing. When officers and medical personnel arrived, they found a deceased male victim inside the residence. Officers observed a suspected gunshot wound on the victim's body. Detectives with the SPD’s Criminal Investigations Section began a homicide investigation and processed the crime scene for evidence.
The victim was identified as Tyrone Gardner, a 35-year-old black male from Springfield. The victim’s next of kin have been notified.
A suspect has not been identified at this time and detectives have been interviewing witnesses and following up on leads in an attempt to identify and locate those responsible. They ask for anyone with information about this homicide to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death.
The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available for release at this time.
