FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Springfield Police Department, in collaboration with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, conducted a sobriety checkpoint last night on Sunshine Street at West Bypass. A total of 500 motorists were contacted during the 3 ½ hours the checkpoint was in operation.
A total of 11 arrests were made: Nine for Driving While Intoxicated, one for Driving While Intoxicated – Drugs and one warrant arrest.
The checkpoint was funded through a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation, Division of Highway Safety.
Consequences of drunk driving include jail time, loss of driving privileges, sentencing to use ignition interlocks and increased insurance rates. Financial losses include attorney fees, court costs, lost time at work and the potential loss of a job.
Drunk driving is not worth the consequences – remember, if you drink and drive, you lose.
