FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
At approximately 12:25 p.m. on Nov. 23, Springfield police officers responded to 342 E. Downing Street after a 911 caller requested that officers check the well-being of the residents. After responding to the home, officers were able to enter and check for anyone injured inside when they discovered a deceased female. Evidence observed in the home led officers to believe the death was suspicious in nature. Springfield detectives with the Criminal Investigations Section’s Violent Crimes Unit responded to the home and confirmed the female was the victim of a homicide.
The victim was identified as Kathi H. Jones (Brown), 48, of Springfield. Next of kin notifications have been made.
A suspect has not been identified at this time and detectives have been interviewing witnesses and following up on leads. They ask anyone with information about this homicide to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine the cause of death. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available for release at this time.
