FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Public Works has authorized Ewing Signal Construction, LLC to begin construction of roadway and signal improvements at the intersection of State Highway 744 (East Kearney Street) and Mulroy Road (Farm Road 199).
Lane shifts and closures will occur at various times throughout construction, including the closure of Mulroy Road at the railroad tracks beginning Wednesday, Feb. 10. The project is scheduled to be complete by May 2016.
The project includes the construction of an eastbound right turn lane, widening of Mulroy Road across the railroad tracks to the south, lighting enhancements and the installation of a new traffic signal.
The City of Springfield and Greene County are splitting the project construction cost, which is estimated at $350,000. The Missouri Department of Transportation is also participating in the project by supplying traffic signal equipment. The City's funding source for the project is the 1/8-cent Transportation Sales Tax.
This project will also involve coordination with two other projects, including the reconstruction of the railroad crossing and installation of lights and gates immediately south of Kearney Street by BNSF Railway, and the widening of Mulroy Road south of the railroad by a private developer.
Drivers are asked to use caution when driving through the construction project, and use alternate roadways when possible.
