FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield police were dispatched to 839 S. West Ave. at approximately 6:42 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 13, after a 911 caller stated a person had been shot.
Upon arrival to this address, officers located a male victim in the front yard with injuries consistent with a gunshot wound. The victim died at the scene. During the investigation, officers identified and located the suspect who was still at the scene. The suspect was taken into custody at that time.
The victim was identified as Jacob Merriman, 28, of Springfield. Next of kin notifications have been made for the victim. The suspect was identified as Trevor Brandt, 24, of Springfield.
Detectives continue to investigate and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
