FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Springfield Police Department has completed an annual report that highlights the department’s activities during 2015.
Police Chief Paul Williams mentions in his opening message of the report that many things were accomplished in 2015, as the SPD began to grow in its authorized strength. The department was awarded full accreditation status from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) for the seventh consecutive time. “We remain committed to continuously seeking to improve and stay abreast of the challenges facing today’s police agencies, while working with our citizens to enhance the safety and security of our community,” said Williams.
Together, the department faced tragedy when Officer Aaron Pearson was shot and suffered a career-ending injury but also celebrated the triumph of his remarkable recovery. “It was a journey that the community undertook with us, embracing Aaron and his family in an amazing outpouring of support and extending that sense of appreciation, care, concern and respect to each of his brothers and sisters serving with the SPD,” said Williams.
The success of investigative operations, the community’s engagement in SPD’s outreach initiatives and the promotions and awards received by department staff throughout the year were also detailed in the report.
The SPD encourages citizens to review the attached report, and welcomes feedback via the SPD website, at www.springfieldmo.gov/spd.
