FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The City of Springfield is monitoring a wildfire smoke plume from Canada that is anticipated to inundate the Springfield airshed by Sunday morning with the strong smell of burning firewood. This is an alert for high levels of fine particulates in this smoke plume for the Springfield area and surrounding communities.
AirNow.gov has issued an orange alert for the Springfield area, meaning that members of sensitive groups may experience health effects, however, air quality experts at the City of Springfield anticipate a red alert – meaning that everyone may begin to experience health effects and members of sensitive groups may experience more serious health effects – for Sunday and Monday.
Unhealthy levels of air quality may affect those with breathing difficulties while outdoors for extended periods of time. Persons with respiratory health conditions are advised to stay indoors to avoid the poor air quality outside.
