Update: Mr. Downing was located by a citizen near the yard waste recycling center in the 3600 block of S. Hutchinson Rd. He has no apparent injuries.
Original release: The Springfield Police Department is investigating a report of a missing and endangered person and is asking for the public’s assistance. James Ray Downing, 80, was last seen by his family at 9 p.m. May 30 at his home in the 1700 block of W. Cherokee. It was later discovered that he was seen by a neighbor walking east on Cherokee from his residence at approximately 9:30 a.m. on May 31. Downing suffers from Alzheimer’s and dementia and has a history of walking away from his home.
He is 5 feet 10 inches tall, 175 pounds, and has white hair and green eyes. He was last seen wearing a purple t-shirt and dark-colored slacks.
Anyone with information regarding Downing’s whereabouts is asked to call 911.
