FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield Police Officers were dispatched to 635 E. University at approximately 7:36 p.m. on Aug. 17 after receiving a report that a man and woman had been stabbed at the home. Upon arriving at the location, officers located a deceased male victim inside the home who had injuries consistent with knife wounds. A female victim had also been stabbed and was transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The suspect was apprehended at the scene and is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The deceased victim was identified as Marc F. Cooper, 66, of Springfield. The injured female was identified as Nancy Cooper, 67, also of Springfield. Next of kin notifications were made for the deceased victim.
The suspect apprehended at the scene was identified as Edward M. Gutting, 43, of Springfield. He was booked into Greene County Jail.
Detectives continue to investigate the incident and are asking anyone who has information about this incident to contact the Springfield Police Department at 417-864-1810 or make an anonymous call to Crime Stoppers at 417-869-8477.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Greene County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available for release at this time.
