The Ozark Region Workforce Development Board and Missouri Job Center are hosting a graduation for the first Green for Greene EPA-funded Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Program. The event will be held in the Event Center Room at The Fairbanks, 1126 N Broadway, Springfield, MO 65802 on Monday, April 3 from 1-2:30 p.m. The participants will be attending a closed hiring event after the graduation with 16 area employers.
Green for Greene included environmental training for 24 participants as well as resume and interview preparation, career clothing assistance, soft skills training, and a budgeting workshop. The first track of 12 participants received certifications in OSHA HAZWOPER; OSHA 10; Environmental Sampling and Monitoring; Trenching and Excavation; Confined Space; Lead Renovation, Repair, and Painting; Lead Abatement Worker; Asbestos Worker/Handler; Stormwater Management; Forklift Driver; First Aid/CPR certifications. The second track of 12 participants received certifications in OSHA HAZWOPER and Class A CDL. Classes were held at the Missouri Job Center, Environmental Works, C1 Truck Driver Training, and Southwest Missouri Safety Company.
The Green for Greene training program is funded by a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training (EWDJT) Program. The three-year grant will provide two classes the variety of certifications needed for high paying "green" jobs.
The Ozark Region Workforce Development Board and Missouri Job Center serve the counties of Christian, Dallas, Greene, Polk, Stone, Taney, and Webster. The Ozark Region boasts three Missouri Job Center locations (Springfield, North Springfield, and Branson), as well as a Mobile Career Center. The Ozark Region has a long history of working with job seekers and businesses to meet the workforce needs of our community.
