FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Ozark Region Workforce Development Board and the City of Springfield Department of Workforce Development have partnered with a collaborative of local contractors, organizations, and institutions for the first annual Build My Future Construction Showcase on April 12, 2017. With approximately 900 high school students from a ten county area, Build My Future allows students to explore the opportunities in the Construction and Trades Industry. Students will be exposed to careers in architecture, bricklaying, HVAC, labor, plumbing, welding, and more as they participate in over 50 hands on exhibits.
Mary Ann Rojas, Director of the City of Springfield's Department of Workforce Development, said "We are especially grateful to our lead partners MoDOT and the Homebuilders Association of Greater Springfield, the planning committee, volunteers, exhibitors, and school districts who are lending a hand to showcase the benefits of working in the construction industry. Twenty-five percent of all open jobs in our country are in the construction and related fields with entry level wages sometimes double minimum wage."
