The Springfield Police Department was dispatched to an injury crash in the intersection of Battlefield Road and Kimbrough Avenue at 8:09 p.m. on May 2. A 2007 Mercedes GL450 driven by Oludare A. Bakare, 37, of Springfield, was turning left from eastbound Battlefield Road to northbound Kimbrough Avenue when a 2013 Honda motorcycle driven by Wallace C. M. Ransom, 24, of Springfield, which was traveling westbound on Battlefield Road, struck the Mercedes. Bakare was not injured. Ransom was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Ransom’s next of kin was notified. The investigation is ongoing, but there were no signs of driver impairment at the scene.
This marks the fifth fatality crash in Springfield for 2017.
