FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Springfield Police Department regularly hosts informational seminars for potential police recruits. For the first time, the Department’s Training Unit will also include a diversity panel as part of the seminar which will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 5, at the Springfield Regional Police and Fire Training Center, 2620 W. Battlefield Road. Springfield police officers representing several different minority groups will be on hand to answer questions and provide feedback to potential police recruits about their personal experiences as an SPD officer. Police Chief Paul Williams and other Department leadership have been striving for many years to have a department of personnel that demographically mirrors the community in which it serves. Each year, the Department gets closer to meeting that goal.
In addition, applicants will learn about the entire testing process including the physical agility test, written examination, oral interview, background investigation and post offer exam. It is not mandatory that an applicant attend, but information given during the seminar may prove helpful to them during the testing process.
The next opportunity for police officer testing will be July 14, 2017, and the deadline to apply is July 7. Applications should be submitted online at goSPD.com. Additional dates for testing will be added to the SPD’s website throughout the year. For more information, contact Officer Brandon Keene at 417-864-1796 or by email at [email protected].
