FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New initiative aims to bring the Missouri Job Center to the public

SPRINGFIELD, MO – The Department of Workforce Development's One-Stop Pop-Up Job Center initiative is coming back to the Southwest Corner of  Park Central Square in Downtown Springfield December 12-14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The first Pop-Up Job Center was a tremendous success and connected many job seekers with employment opportunities. Staff will be available once again to help disseminate information on open jobs, displaced worker services, and job skills classes.

These Pop-Up shops were modeled after the popular "Pop-Up Restaurants or Boutiques" craze in communities, where chefs or designers create a temporary restaurant or boutique for patrons in the area as a cost effective way to test the local product market. At the Missouri Job Center, staff realized that barriers like transportation can prevent job seekers from visiting Job Centers, so to counteract that problem these Pop-Up Job Centers will consist of Job Center staff converging upon a visible area within the community and reaching out to those who wish to obtain employment or find training. On-site staff will provide some services offered at the Missouri Job Center, including a chance for attendees to complete a resume, search for available jobs, and gather information on job skills and other areas of employment.

"We are so excited to offer a second week of our new One-Stop Pop-Up Job Center," Sally Payne, Assistant Director of Workforce Development, said. "We had an overwhelming response for our first one last month so we decided to come back to Park Central Square and offer three more days before the holidays. We believe this Pop-Up option lets the job center come to the job seekers that may face multiple barriers including transportation and childcare that might prevent them from traveling to our East Sunshine or North Robberson locations."

For information about the event, please contact Sally Payne, [email protected], (417) 841-3320.
