FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE It’s that time of year again. City of Springfield Public Works will install the Park Central Square Christmas tree at 8:30 a.m., Monday, Nov. 16. The 30-foot blue spruce tree was donated by Missouri State University and formerly stood at the intersection of John Q. Hammons Parkway and Elm Street near Sunvilla Tower. The upcoming construction of a new Missouri State shuttle stop on the site called for the removal of the tree. The Downtown Springfield Association identified it as a great candidate to spread Christmas cheer on the Square, according to DSA’s Barb Baker. MSU President Clif Smart will flip the switch on the decked-out tree at the Park Central Square Tree Lighting ceremony at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 21.
