FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Acting City Clerk Anita Cotter has been appointed by Springfield City Council as the new City Clerk. She has served as Assistant City Clerk since 1996 and replaces Brenda Cirtin, who transitioned to City Clerk Emeritus in March. Cirtin will formally retire in August from the City after 23 years of service. The City Clerk provides support to the Mayor and City Council and records the official minutes of the City Council meetings and several boards, commissions and committees. The Clerk supervises office and clerical support functions, coordinates municipal elections with the County Clerk, processes Sunshine Law requests and serves as repository for all official City records. “Anita will continue the impressive legacy of great service provided to both the City Council and our citizens,” said City Manager Greg Burris. “She has the energy and professionalism to continue to improve the operations of this vital function of the City.” Cotter is certified as a Missouri Municipal Clerk (MMC) through Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association (MoCCFOA) and is a Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) through the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). She obtained a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership and Bachelor’s degree in business administration from Evangel. “I hope to improve the Clerk’s office as an important link to residents, visitors and to municipal government. We have a great team that provides services essential to the day-to-day needs of the general public. I am honored and humbled to be provided this opportunity,” Cotter said. Cotter’s appointment is effective May 17, 2015 and her salary will be $70,283.20. ### For more information, please contact Cora Scott, Director of Public Information & Civic Engagement, at 417-864-1009 or [email protected]
