FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The City of Springfield's May 1% general sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue is down 4% compared to what was budgeted, however, receipts are still strong on a year-to-date basis, according to City Finance Director Mary Mannix Decker. The check reflects sales processed by the state in April from transactions made primarily in March. The sales tax check was $2,601,272 compared to the budgeted amount of $2,702,854. On a year-to-date basis, sales tax revenue is $38,413,914. This is 5%, or $1,897,584 above the budgeted amount of $36,516,330. When comparing to the same month last year, May receipts were down $878,023, or 25% lower than May 2014. On a year-to-date basis, the sales tax revenue is 7%, or $2,598,034higher, than last year. The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations.
