FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Please join the City of Springfield 4:30-6:15 p.m., Monday April 13 in the lobby of the Busch Municipal Building for a reception honoring the public service of City Council members Doug Burlison, Mike Carroll, Jerry Compton, Cindy Rushefsky and Jeff Seifried. Doug Burlison was originally elected as an at-large Councilman in April 2007, and was re-elected in April 2011. He served as chair of the Plans and Policies Committee and was a member of the Community Involvement Committee. Burlison is an assistant manager at Ozark Tape and Label Co., is a life-long resident of the City of Springfield. He is a single father to two children. Mike Carroll was appointed to City Council to serve as general council member for seat D in February 2013. He currently serves on the Finance and Administration Committee and the Community Involvement Committee. Carroll's civic involvement includes service on the Greene County Board of Equalization and Leadership Springfield. Additionally he served as the treasurer for the Parenting Life Skills Center. Jerry Compton was originally appointed to City Council to represent Zone 3 in May 2009, and was elected in April 2011. He currently serves as chair of the Finance and Administration Committee and is a member of the Public Involvement Committee. Additionally, he serves on the Ozarks Transportation Organization board of directors, Enterprise Zone Board, Convention Center Task Force, and the Strategic Planning Committees for Transportation and Growth and Land Management Uses. Compton’s civic involvement includes service on the Planning and Zoning Commission for over six years and service on the Personnel Board for over a year until his appointment to City Council. He currently serves as a volunteer with the State Emergency Management Agency, serving as a structural inspector. Cynthia (Cindy) Rushefsky was originally elected as a City Council member to represent Zone 2 in April 2007, and was re-elected in April 2011. She currently serves as chair of the Community Involvement Committee and is a member of the Public Involvement Committee. She is also a non-voting member of the Police and Fire Pension Board. During her tenure, she developed a protocol for child abuse investigations, emphasized counseling and services for victims, developed standards for videotaping children's testimony in criminal cases, pushed for SAFE examinations for child victims, and created a team concept that laid the groundwork for the Child Advocacy Center. She was a board member for the Family Violence Center and the Rape Crisis Center and a founding member of the Child Fatality Review Team for Greene County. Jeff Seifried was originally appointed to City Council to represent Zone 1 in February 2012, and was elected in April 2013. Before announcing his resignation from Council earlier this year to become the president and chief executive officer of the Branson Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce, he served on the Plans and Policies Committee and the Public Involvement Committee. In May of 2012 Seifried was elected Mayor Pro Tempore when Robert Stephens became Mayor following the resignation of Jim O’Neal. He was re-elected as Mayor Pro Tem in April of 2013. Seifried’s professional career has largely been spent in the area of Economic Development.Seifried is a graduate of Drury University and holds a bachelor of arts degree in business administration, with a minor in global studies. He is also a graduate of the Oklahoma University Economic Development Institute. In addition to his service on City Council, Seifried is a member of the Board of Directors for the Southwest Missouri Council of Governments, and serves as chair of Drury University Fraternity Alumni Board. He is a member of the Network, the Missouri Economic Development Council, BancorpSouth Community Development Committee and Drury SIFE Business Advisory Board.
