FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE The City of Springfield's April 1% general sales tax check from the Missouri Department of Revenue is down 7% compared to what was budgeted. The check reflects sales processed by the state in March from transactions made primarily in January and February. The sales tax check was $3,371,183, compared to the budgeted amount of $3,622,374. On a year-to-date basis, sales tax revenue is $35,812,643. This is 6%, or $1,999,167 above the budgeted amount of $33,813,476. When comparing to the same month last year, April receipts were up $442,499, or 15% higher than April 2014. On a year-to-date basis, the sales tax revenue is 11%, or $3,476,057 higher, than last year. The City heavily relies on sales tax revenues as its main source of revenue to fund vital services, such as police and fire operations.
