FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Springfield-based Convoy of Hope delivered much-needed water this morning to a mobile home park in northeast Springfield where more than 30 families have been without access to running water since Monday.
The City of Springfield and the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management reached out to Convoy of Hope on behalf of the residents of the park Tuesday. The faith-based organization responded fewer than 16 hours later by delivering two pallets of water for drinking, cooking and hygiene needs. "We are so thankful to have an organization like Convoy of Hope that does great work around the world right here in Springfield to assist our residents. Kudos to Convoy," says City Manager Greg Burris. Founded in 1994, Convoy of Hope has a history as an early responder during natural disasters. In the last 20 years, the organization has served more than 70 million people around the world. “Water is essential,” says Chris Dudley, disaster services response director for Convoy of Hope. “We are used to responding to disasters all over the world, but today the need was in our own backyard.” For more information, please contact Cora Scott, City of Springfield director of Public Information & Civic Engagement, at 417-864-1009 or 417-380-3352 or [email protected] or or Molly Erickson, Convoy of Hope Creative Communications director at 417-851-4537 or 417-300-5432.
