FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Carden International Circus approached the City of Springfield with a desire to give back to local public safety agencies through their Circus in Springfield next month. Carden decided he would donate one dollar of each admission ticket sold to the Springfield Police Department and Springfield Fire Department. It was determined that if they received donations, and the donation was reviewed and accepted by the City, the Springfield Police Department would use the funds for crime prevention materials, and the Springfield Fire Department would use funds for its community risk reduction efforts.
It has been brought to our attention that inaccurate information is being distributed and we have asked the Circus to correct their information or cease and desist. The attached letter has been distributed to business owners misleading them to believe we are co-hosting the Circus. It also incorrectly states the following:
“One dollar ($1.00 from each ticket purchased will be donated directly to Springfield Police & Fire Departments for better equipment and better training for Springfield Police Officers and Fire Department to make Springfield a safer place for every citizen!”
In addition, while we were also assured that there would be no telemarketing or solicitation using the SPD or SFD names, we have been notified that citizens are receiving phone calls from telemarketers representing the Carden Circus who are claiming to be raising money for “Springfield Police.”
The Springfield Police and Fire Departments do not and cannot raise funds in this manner, and the public is urged to contact the agencies if they receive this type of call. Do not provide any personal information during any type of unsolicited phone call.
If you receive any type of solicitation noting that either of the Departments are misrepresented on letters, marketing materials or on phone calls, citizens are urged to share that information with the Springfield Police Department at [email protected].
