A good job is a great start, and that’s what the fourth cohort of Change One Thousand hopes to accomplish after graduation. To celebrate their accomplishments, a graduation ceremony will be held in their honor on Friday, August 24, 2:00 pm, at the Missouri Job Center, 2900 E. Sunshine. Greene County Commissioner Harold Bengsch will be the featured speaker.
Over the last 10 days, 16 students have been learning the skills needed to land a great job and that’s exactly what Cathy Wright intends to do. “Honestly, this is one of the best classes I’ve ever taken,” she said. Cathy and her husband Reymond, have taken the class together.
Cathy’s dream is to become a registered nurse and she is currently on the waiting list for the Cox College of Nursing. Reymond wants to find full-time employment with the Battlefield Fire Department but must first pass testing. “We look forward to this class everyday,” Cathy said. “It’s made us learn about us.”
Change One Thousand is a skills academy that teaches participants resume writing, interview skills, proper work etiquette as well as other more technical skills taught in conjunction by instructors from Bryan University.
“Change One Thousand was born out of numerous conversations with manufacturing companies about workforce trends they were observing in their companies, said Mary Ann Rojas, Missouri Job Center Director.
