Springfield area manufacturers are getting together to talk workforce needs and challenges this industry faces, at a roundtable discussion hosted by the Missouri Job Center. The roundtable is set for Thursday, October 11, 7:30 am, at the Missouri Job Center, 2900 E. Sunshine.
More than 35 companies will be present that day to discuss issues pertinent to manufacturers including promotion of the industry as a whole in the region, lack of a skilled workforce, and retaining qualified workers.
“The feedback we get from these roundtables allows us to develop programs helpful to manufacturers and gives us direction on how we can help guide training for the workforce of the future,” said Dennis Wiggins, Business Services Supervisor for the Job Center.
“We’re working in conjunction with our workforce partners at the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce, Ozarks Technical Community College and Springfield Public Schools, to develop a plan to promote the industry as a whole,” Wiggins said. What we hear from our manufacturing partners will help shape our action plan in the future, he said.
