New Grants Aim to Curb Healthcare Worker Shortage

The America’s Promise Grant, formerly known as Ozarks Promise, recently received national approval for four new healthcare-related training programs. The grant covers full tuition and fees for all required courses and is administered through the Missouri Job Center.

America’s Promise is a $3 million grant that aims to train 372 individuals in healthcare fields through December 2020. The grant pays for training fees and tuition for the Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) program and the Associates of Science in Nursing (ASN) program through Ozarks Technical Community College.

“At the Missouri Job Center, we are excited about the approval of four new programs which will pay full tuition and fees for all required courses,” said Lexi Mason, outreach specialist for the America’s Promise grant. The new programs include: Certified Medical Assistant, Certified Pharmacy Technician, Phlebotomy and EMT-Basic.

“The new programs were approved for occupations in high demand, as the nursing and healthcare shortage is impacting our region dramatically,” Mason said. To date, we’ve had 165 students participate in healthcare training programs. Nearly all our participants have received job offers at the completion of their training and are working in higher-skill jobs than prior to beginning their respective programs, Mason added.

Those interested in the healthcare training fields mentioned can apply online at ozarkspromise.com. For questions or more information, please visit the website or contact Lexi Mason at 417-841-3354 or [email protected].
