City Council will discuss a broader view of animal control issues at today's Council Lunch Workshop at noon in the Busch Municipal Building 4th Floor Conference Room. Mayor Ken McClure and Councilman Craig Hosmer have requested additional information from the Springfield-Greene County Health Department, which runs animal control services. The Mayor said the purpose of the meeting, in which no public comment will be taken, is to further discuss the issues and allow Council members to ask any questions they may still have. City Council faces a decision at the next formal meeting, scheduled for Dec. 11, of whether or not to repeal an ordinance passed Oct. 2 establishing a future ban upon the possession of new pit bull dogs within the City limits. The future ban is halted due to a sufficient number of signatures collected via the referendum petition process. The results of a sufficient petition require that Council must either repeal the ban or send the issue to a vote of the people.
Although no public comment will be taken, today's Council Lunch Workshop is an open meeting.
