Residents urged to seek relief from heat as temperatures rise

As heat indices today are expected to top 104 today, the Springfield-Greene County Office of Emergency Management and City of Springfield offer the following advice for places to seek relief from the heat:

Public spaces, such as Springfield-Greene County libraries, City facilities and Springfield-Greene County facilities, as well as private property opened to the public, such as the Battlefield Mall are recommended.

The Springfield-Greene County Park Board adjusts schedules at outdoor pools and the Springfield Skate Park, and offers cooling center options.

If scheduling allows, the Park Board strives to keep at least one outdoor pool open late during National Weather Service Heat Advisories, including:

Splash & Sizzle discount swimming events continue every weekend in July. Grant Beach, Westport and Silver Springs pools are Fridays in July until 8 p.m. Grant Beach, Westport, Silver Springs and Meadow pools are open Saturdays in July until 8 p.m. A rare opportunity for night swimming takes place at Fassnight Pool, open Saturdays in July until 10 p.m. After 5:30 p.m., admission to all pools is $1, or free with a canned food donation. Food donations benefit Ozarks Food Harvest.

For information on pool locations, schedules, swim lessons and more, visit or call the Aquatics Hotline at 417-864-2099.
