Tonight's Jazz Festival Ramsey Lewis headliner concert at the Gillioz is cancelled due to artist illness. Ticket holders will be offered the option of a refund. Mr. Lewis fell extremely ill yesterday evening, after performing in Des Moines feeling under the weather, and has become too ill to perform during his transit to Springfield overnight. Refunds will be processed immediately. If you purchased using a credit/debit card, the funds will transfer back on to the card you purchased tickets with. If you made a cash purchase, you can return your tickets to the Gillioz box office between 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday – Friday for a full refund.
The free music of the festival continues, however, on two stages today, from noon - 7 p.m. The festival includes seven hours of free live music on Park Central East and Park Central Square. The lineup promises a variety of grooves from the Missouri State University Jazz Ensemble and Symposiums, the Evangel and Drury jazz bands, the Brandon Mezzelo Trio, the Arthur Duncan Band, Hamm/Aho Trio featuring Christin Bohrisch, the Brueggemann/Gouge Quintet, the Brant Jester Quartet and the Missouri Jazz Orchestra (MOJO).
“We are thrilled to showcase the talented jazz musicians from our local universities, as well as welcome a great lineup of local and regional jazz artists” says Downtown Springfield Association Executive Director Rusty Worley. “But it’s more than just about the music and celebrating the work of great artists – it’s also about celebrating the cultural diversity in our community.
Festival partners include the Gillioz, Systematic Savings Bank, Missouri Arts Council, Springfield Regional Arts Council, Springfield Public Schools, Springfield Music, Missouri State University, the Downtown Springfield Association and the City.
